This is why you fight Skeletron on the roof so mobs can't come from one side, and only over the roof. After it is defeated, beware from other mobs, as you could have lower health than you expected. Skeletron does not have a second form, making it slightly easier to fight. Refrain from hitting the hands with ranged weapons while it is doing a spinning attack, as this attack is the moment in which he is the most vulnerable to hits. If you are running low on ammunition, attack it with a sword when it gets near. Continue to shoot at Skeletron with your magic or ranged weaponry, until it starts to do it's spinning attack. The knockback will be very annoying while fighting, and it will also make it harder to fight while being tossed around. Avoid it's hands at all costs, unless you have a Cobalt Shield or Obsidian Shield. The battlefield only has to be one long strip that you can stand on, for you will want to have as much mobility while fighting this boss. It is strongly recommended to set up a battlefield up on top of the roof, and a way to get up there, whether it be by jumping up or flying up using Rocket Boots. Universal: When you enter the battle with Skeletron, you will have to have talked to the Old Man down below the roof. It makes up for this crummy drop by also dropping 5 Gold Coins, which makes it well worth fighting. When it is defeated, it drops the least amount of items (value-wise, and quantity) of any boss- 5-15 Lesser Healing Potions. That is your chance to melee it, because it moves so slowly. While it is doing this, Skeletron's head loses all of its defense until it is done the attack, which it will complete about 8 seconds after starting it. After a while, it will let out a faint growl-yell-sound and stop flailing it's arms, but instead, it attacks by rapidly spinning it's head around, slowly moving closer to you. It's hands aren't attached to its body by matter, which allows it to swing it's arms as far as it wants you may want to trust jumping instead of running for its arm attacks. Skeletron flails his hands towards you, in an attempt to do damage. Even Skeletron's hardcore mode, Skeletron Prime, doesn't fight like Skeletron. The way that this boss fights is unique, no other bosses fight in this manner. The best way to fight Skeletron is to target the head, but if you do not have top gear, you may want to take out the hands first if it is even just missing a single hand, then it becomes much easier to fight. If you manage to kill the head, the hands will die with it, but you can defeat the hands without killing the head. He has three parts a head, and two hands. Skeletron's AI is more advanced than most softcore bosses, and because of this, he is rather difficult. Skeletron can only be summoned by talking to the Old Man in front of the Dungeon at night, and selecting the Curse option in the chatbox. Skeletron himself can be a threat to new players, so it is recommended to be well prepared before you come to this battle. When Skeletron is defeated, you will be allowed access to the Dungeon, an amazing place in Terraria in which some of the top non-hardcore items can be found. He is the materialized form of the curse that inflicts the Old Man, who stands infront of the Dungeon. Skeletron is a medium-difficulty, softcore boss.
